Quick answer

A Flex Credits charge is either credits bought upfront (Pre-Purchase) or credits already used, billed monthly in arrears: pay-as-you-go, Pre-Commit, or usage past what you prepaid. Pre-Commit can also end with a shortfall invoice. List price is $500 per 100,000 credits; your Order Form's Usage Rate decides yours.1,2

The common reasons
Most Flex Credits charges come from one of these. Each names where to confirm it in your own documents.
1. You pay as you go, or on a Pre-Commit
Both bill usage every month, after the month: pay-as-you-go at list price, Pre-Commit at the rate in your contract. A Flex Credits line then appears on every invoice that follows a month of use.1,2

Estimate a month at list price2. You used more than you prepaid
Credits past your entitlement are billed at your contracted rate, monthly in arrears. There is no overage penalty, and nothing stops at 100%: Digital Wallet can send alerts, but it does not block or throttle usage.1,3,4

Salesforce meters actions, not conversations: 20 credits per action, 30 in a voice conversation, and one request usually runs several. Salesforce's own examples use one to five actions per request.1,5

Per-user Agentforce add-ons are unmetered only when the action runs as the licensed user. Flows that run as the Automated Process user, scheduled Apex and scheduled agents are metered, and customer-facing agents draw credits regardless.1,6

Flex Credits are one pool across Agentforce and Data 360. Data 360 processing spends it directly, and knowledge or Data 360 lookups inside an agent action are billed on Data 360 meters on top of the action. Data 360 bought before 24 Feb 2026 uses separate Data Services credits.1,7,8

Sandboxes and scratch orgs are metered at lower rates, 16 credits per action, and draw on the production org's credits; there is no separate sandbox pool. Previewing an agent in Agentforce Builder is metered too. Testing Center runs have been unmetered since the week of 17 Aug 2026.5,9,10

The same pool now pays for Help Agent resolutions (400 credits each), Leads Worked by the Buyer Engagement Agent (400) and Slackbot actions once a workspace has used its included messages (40 or 200).1,5

If usage over the term falls short of a Pre-Commit, Salesforce invoices the remaining balance at term end. That shortfall invoice arrives on its own, apart from the monthly usage invoices.2,11

What a Flex Credits line is
Flex Credits are Salesforce's consumption currency for Agentforce and Data 360. They form one pool: agent actions, prompts, voice and Data 360 processing all draw on the same credits, with nothing allocated upfront.1
Every billable step has a rate in credits. An agent action costs 20 credits whatever it does, and it is billed each time it runs, whether the agent chose it while reasoning or a fixed instruction triggered it. Escalations, variables and topic changes are not billed.5,12
How the credits reach your invoice depends on how they were bought. Pre-Purchase credits are paid for upfront and drawn down; anything past the balance is billed at your contracted rate, monthly in arrears. Pre-Commit has no upfront payment: usage is billed monthly in arrears, and a shortfall is invoiced at term end. Pay-as-you-go is billed monthly in arrears at list price, with no minimum.1,2
Whether the amount is what you agreed to depends on three entries in your Order Form's Usage Details table: the credits pre-purchased or pre-committed, the Usage Rate charged past them, and the Order End Date by which they must be used. Unused credits do not roll over.5,13
Who gets a Flex Credits charge
Any org with Flex Credits switched on. Using them requires Salesforce Foundations, which Salesforce lists at $0.12
- Orgs buying Flex Credits on Pre-Purchase, Pre-Commit or pay-as-you-go.1,2
- Orgs on the Core, Advanced or Max editions launched on 3 Sep 2026, which include 500K, 1M or 2.75M Flex Credits per org per year. Included credits do not roll over.5,14
- Orgs that started on the credits included with Salesforce Foundations: once those run out, usage is billed at the lowest usage rate on your active Order Forms, monthly in arrears.15
- Orgs with per-user Agentforce add-ons, for anything that runs outside the licensed user: customer-facing agents, Data 360 usage and Agentforce Grid included.1,6
- Data 360 customers who bought or renewed on Flex Credits after 24 Feb 2026.8

ACME's invoice bills $6,820.00 of Agentforce Flex Credits for September, in arrears. It prints no credits and no rate.
We estimate
If it was billed at list price, $500 per 100,000 credits. A contracted rate below list means more credits behind the same dollars.

Frequently asked questions
Can I stop Flex Credits from going past my entitlement?
Not with a switch. Digital Wallet does not block or throttle any service at 100%; usage continues and is billed monthly in arrears. Salesforce's advice is to set up consumption alerts, which are off by default and run as a flow.3,4
Is there a penalty for going over?
No. There is no overage penalty: extra usage is billed at your contracted rate, monthly in arrears. On pay-as-you-go everything is billed at list price, so there is no overage at all.1,2
Do unused Flex Credits roll over?
No. Flex Credits, including credits bundled with editions, must be used before the Order End Date on your Order Form.5
Why doesn't my Flex Credits charge match Digital Wallet?
Digital Wallet is monitoring: most of its data refreshes every few hours and it rounds credits to whole numbers, while billing uses full precision. The monthly statement and the invoice are the record of what you owe, so small differences are expected.18,20
Are sandbox testing and agent previews billed?
Yes, at lower rates. Sandboxes and scratch orgs use 16 credits per action instead of 20, drawn from the production org's credits, and previewing an agent in Agentforce Builder is metered. Testing Center runs have been unmetered since the week of 17 Aug 2026.5,9,10
Does CalculateForce upload my invoice?
No. The invoice is read in your browser and the file is not uploaded. Saving an analysis is optional; it sends a text summary, not the document, so it can be emailed to you.
